Most of the world doesn't play on a flagship. Our performance budget is written for the phone most players actually own.
It's easy to make a game feel fast on a flagship phone over office Wi-Fi. That's not where players are.
Our reference device is a 2019 mid-range Android on a throttled 4G profile. The performance budget we hold every build to is written for that phone: a small first payload, a frame loop pinned to 60 fps with zero per-frame allocations, particle effects with hard caps, and a renderer that never asks for full-retina resolution on a device that can't afford it.
If a feature can't make that budget, we redesign the feature. Not the budget.
